Keep It Simple, Start Seeds In Soil!

Every spring, handfuls of growers reach out, disappointed that their seeds did not sprout. The overwhelming majority are growers who stick their seeds in wet paper towels, plastic bags, peat pods, or use elaborate pre-soak methods.

From having hundreds of millions of our seeds sprouted world wide, we can say with confidence, the best way to kick-start your cannabis growing journey is by starting seeds directly in potting soil. Keep it simple, keep it cheap.

Natural Environment for Germination
When seeds are placed directly in potting soil, they begin the germination process in the environment they’ll be growing in. This allows them to acclimate naturally to the soil's texture, moisture levels, and temperature. Unlike the paper towel method or peat pods, where seeds can sometimes struggle to transition into soil, direct planting ensures a smoother transition from seed to plant.

Healthier, Stronger Root Development
Planting directly in soil allows the seed to immediately begin growing in a stable and supportive environment. With consistent moisture and nutrients available in the potting soil, roots grow naturally and strong. Methods like soaking seeds or using paper towels may temporarily provide the conditions for sprouting, but they don’t allow for robust root development, which is essential for healthy plants. Peat pods can sometimes hinder root growth, as they may not break down quickly enough, potentially stunting development.

Elimination of Transplant Shock
When seeds are germinated in a separate medium like a paper towel or peat pod, they must eventually be transplanted into soil. This transition can cause transplant shock, where the seedlings experience stress due to changes in their environment. Starting seeds in potting soil removes this step entirely, allowing the plants to remain in their natural growing medium and grow uninterrupted.

Reduced Risk of Mold and Disease
The paper towel method, if not carefully monitored, can sometimes lead to excess moisture, promoting mold and mildew growth. Peat pods, while convenient, can also trap moisture in a way that doesn’t allow for proper airflow, potentially causing fungal issues. With potting soil, you have greater control over moisture levels, reducing the risk of these problems and providing a healthier environment for your seeds.

Cost-Effective and Low-Maintenance
While specialized germination techniques like soaking, paper towels, or peat pods require extra materials, potting soil is affordable and widely available. Plus, starting seeds in soil reduces the need for frequent monitoring and handling, making it a low-maintenance choice that saves time and effort.
